The 3rd Conferenza on LNG for Transport in Italy and the Mediterranean Area took place in Rome during June 2015, along with the 1st Fair on LNG Technologies for Transports. The moto of the conference, “LNG gets momentum”, was clearly setting the central topic of discussion that of the methanization of the Mediterranean, from ships to trucks, from rails to industries.
The Conference was a great occasion to also learn about the future developments of the LNG business in the Adriatic-Ionian macro Region addressed by the Italian Government as the first low sulphur area in the Mediterranean Sea and entering into force by 2018 when the agreement on the adoption of a maximum 0.1% sulphur content limit in marine fuels will be signed between States bordering these Seas.
During the roundtable session “Governmental policies and program for actions from Mediterranean Countries”, Dr. Panayotis Zacharioudakis gave a speech presenting the case of POSEIDON MED, the LNG Bunkering Project of East Mediterranean explaining why PMED is a system with inherent sustainability that simultaneously creates the critical supply and demand infrastructure in the region. At the same time, he gave a description of how it accomplishes Synergies to maximize efficiency and achieve economies of scale while managing to crack the chicken and egg problem of supply and demand.
