During the event Mr. Lakkotrypis stated ”CYnergy is an extremely important program for Cyprus, laying the foundations for the arrival of LNG on the island contributing to its energy security and the creation of a Natural Gas Market”.
The introduction of natural gas in Cyprus through the CyprusGas2EU project (EU support €101 million consists the 40% of the total amount needed € 250 million for the successful completion of the project) will end the current energy isolation of the Cyprus, bring diversification to a region mostly dominated by one single source of supply and help reduce air pollution and emissions by allowing switching from heavy fuel oil to gas for power generation.
