Poseidon Med Stakeholders Consultation Event was held on 16 September in Limassol. The event aimed to raise awareness on the Poseidon Med Project among the Cypriot Shipping and Energy Stakeholders as well as the wide public. Local stakeholders including among others governmental representatives, shipping companies, port authorities, bunkering companies, academia and press gathered to receive an overview of the current status and progress to date of the project as well as to get an update on the way ahead.
The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Transport, Communication and Works Mr Alecos Michaelides honoured the event with his presence. In his opening speech Mr Michaelides saluted the Poseidon Med project, its inspiration and scope and ensured that the efforts of the project towards the implementation of LNG as marine fuel will have the support of the Cypriot governmental bodies throughout the duration of the project.
Mr Ioannis Bakas, Project Manager of Poseidon Med commented: “We are very glad to be hosting this event in Limassol, one of the core ports participating in the Poseidon Med project. The contribution of Cyprus as the leading member state of the project is of primordial importance and the organisation of an open event to promote the project and raise awareness within the Cypriot Stakeholders was a milestone to us.”
The Consultation Event was followed on 17-18 September by a two day technical workshop on LNG Bunkering at the Port of Limassol aiming to assess the prospects and consider safety matters related to LNG bunkering operations in this port.
